Hey there,
Yes, I'm writing to you. You are the intended person. Hello, I'm Hector. Anyways, that's not the pressing matter here. The thing is I need you to remember me.
As I'm writing to you, my flesh is melting off my bones from the heat. I have managed to find a place to write for now, I had a pen in my shirt pocket fortunately and few documents crumpled up in my bag. Can't say when the fire will reach here. Michael already jumped off the rig. But I have bleak hope regarding him. Maybe I'll jump from the rig, maybe not. I know this is my end is, maybe my body will cling on to life desperately to survive but I have given up. I can understand Michael's will to survive, he has his kid and wife waiting for him to come home. For me, I have no one to greet me when I return, maybe that's why I have given up.
Isn't life funny? Our measly lives truly is less than that of a bug, the irony is that the higher ups are probably scrambling to find a scapegoat to save their skin while ours are melting off. Even in this situation I can't help but laugh.
Lamenting now, wouldn't do any good. It's the only fate anyways left for me now. People say, in times of danger even atheists turn to God, but I can't help but resent him even more. I had nothing anyways and he had to take that away from me too. I was living somehow, it was my only solace that I existed. I knew I wouldn't even be a name after I died but I didn't ask for such a pathetic death.
Sorry, my hand slipped. People are trying to rush out of the rig so someone bumped into me. They didn't even have the time to curse me out at my ridiculous doing. I know him, I think. But his face was nearly half burnt. Sorry, I keep on rambling, I should focus on writing the main thing.
I'm writing this letter to nobody. As it is going to go up in flames. I don't know why I am writing this letter. I just want to be remembered by someone, something but that is not possible.
I'll wrap my ID inside my letter and keep my bag here. Hopefully it survives somehow. Please remember me.
Hector.
